Program Overview
This professional development course is designed to equip clinical coders, mortality reviewers, public health officials, and health informatics professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to accurately code causes of death using the World Health Organization's ICD-10 classification. The course integrates theoretical knowledge with practical exercises and global best practices to ensure data quality and consistency in mortality statistics.
Competencies
- Demonstrate foundational understanding of ICD-10 structure, with emphasis on mortality coding rules.
- Accurately identify and assign the underlying cause of death (UCOD) based on correct interpretation.
- Apply ICD-10 Chapter XV guidelines to correctly code direct and indirect maternal deaths.
- Code perinatal and neonatal deaths using appropriate ICD-10 conventions and sequencing logic in line
- Assign accurate codes for injury, poisoning, and external causes of death.
- Perform quality assurance checks and ensure ethical integrity in mortality coding.
